Arbitration and ADR

Commercial Arbitration. Our team has been widely acknowledged for its long-standing experience and in-depth expertise in arbitration. Our firm has developed an extensive record and know-how in arbitration, being one of a handful of law firms with expertise in this field in Greece.

The firm’s specialist practice group handles a vast range of international and domestic arbitration matters, possessing extensive experience in arbitrations held under the auspices of key arbitral institutions worldwide(such as the ICC, LCIA, and the Rules of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. As Counsel, the firm has handled numerous domestic and international arbitration cases (both institutional and ad-hoc), The group handles arbitrations in various jurisdictions and under several governing laws (including the Greek, French, Swiss, German, English, Swiss and Swedish laws).

The firm has a solid track-record in arbitration related proceedings before Greek and other foreign domestic courts, working closely with international law firms. We have handled numerous annulment and enforcement proceedings, as well as conservatory measures proceedings. An example was our involvement as co-counsel in annulment proceedings that led to a foreign court decision being among the five shortlisted by the Global Arbitration Review for the Most Important Published Decision award worldwide at the 2nd Annual GAR Awards (2011-2012).

Investment Arbitration. Our firm has substantial experience in investment arbitration. Our team is currently involved in an investment arbitration case that is still pending under the auspices of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), representing a major construction company, being the only Greek law firm to act as lead counsel in investment arbitration proceedings. Moreover, in late 2018, Managing Partner, Ioannis Vassardanis was appointed as Arbitrator in another investment arbitration case under the auspices of ICSID. In this respect, Ioannis is the first Greece-based arbitration practitioner, who has ever assumed both the role of an arbitrator in an ICSID Tribunal and that of a counsel in another ICSID case (J&P-AVAX S.A. v. Lebanese Republic). It is worth noting that, in Ioannis’ case, exercises both capacities at the same time.

ADR. Disputes are part and parcel of doing business and, for our firm, resolving them is our business. Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is one of our firm’s core practice areas and is one of the most important dispute resolution tools we employ, in order to avoid arbitration and/or litigation. Considering the evolution and growth of ADR, the continuous development and sophistication of our team’s ADR skills is regarded as a primary goal of our firm.
