Athanassios V. Skontzos is an Associate at Ioannis Vassardanis and Partners since October 2020. Throughout his academic and professional development he has been familiarized with an in-depth understanding of comparative and contemporary issues pertinent to International Litigation, Judicial Proceedings in EU and International Fora, International Commercial and Investment Arbitration, institutional and ad hoc arbitral proceedings and alternative means of resolving disputes (ADR). Athanassios commands a solid understanding of the international perspectives of procedural law covering schemes such as Jurisdiction, Recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments in civil-commercial and matrimonial-parental responsibility matters, Common rules for cross-border insolvency proceedings, Service of legal documents within the EU, Cooperation between courts of Member States in the taking of evidence, International arbitral proceedings and awards, Recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards, Remedies against their recognition and Issues of conflicts of laws.
As a researcher and practitioner he has acquired broad knowledge of the key tendencies in domestic, International and European Private Law and in particular Contracts, Torts, Energy and Consumer Law, as well as to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and international model rules (PICC). Athanassios is well equated with specific areas of arbitration (evidence, third party funding, expedited proceedings, provisional measures), having an in-depth oversight of branded institutional arbitration rules (ICC Rules, LCIA Rules, DIS Rules, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Rules).
